If you’ve noticed, I try to take my own photos because I absolutely love photography. So when I found The Pink and Blue Project I was really impressed by the idea and creativity. The project was started by photographer JeongMee Yoon from Seoul, Korea. It features various pictures of girls with all pink items and boys with blue. While it may seem like a simple photo opp moment, it’s actually much deeper.
Yoon had started the project in 2005 after being inspired by her five year old daughter who loved pink. She and I have something in common! As such, she discovered that her daughter wasn’t the only pink lover and saw that many people around the world had also shared the same passion. This became the basis of her thesis:
“This project explores the trends in cultural preferences and the differences in the tastes of children (and their parents) from diverse cultures, ethnic groups as well as gender socialization and identity. The work also raises other issues, such as the relationship between gender and consumerism, urbanization, the globalization of consumerism and the new capitalism.”
She further explores the idea by exploring the history, seeing the impact it takes on children and how it affects them as they grow older. For example, pink was actually considered a masculine color back in 1914 while blue was meant for girls. It was until America jumped into political correctness and gender equality that the two were eventually switched.

The switch would be nice. Colors should not be limited by gender, social, and culture norms.
