Well, the year is pretty much over and it’s time to say “Hello” to 2009 and “Goodbye” to ‘08. It’s also a time to reflect on the past events of the year. It was a cool year in my opinion, I mean, we’ve elected our first ever “Black” president, Sen. Barack Obama and we all went green in an 11th hour attempt to save our planet. Also this year in La La Land (aka Hollywood), Britney didn’t overdose on her own celebrity. WOOT!

It’s  been a great year for music and fashion…aside from the gossip and train wrecks (Hi Amy!).The two always gone hand in hand, so it’s no surprise that there’s been some really awesome creativity going on and you know wouldn’t be a proper entertainment year-end rundown without mentioning Rihanna, who had her shine in both!

Yep! Rihanna is the Pop Princess this year, simply based on her dominance on the music charts as well how she seemingly made EVERYONE want a short haircut. Yes I know many stars have had the asymmetrical bob way before Rhianna did (Posh anyone? ) and YES I know that her first bob cut was actually jacked from a movie (Aeon Flux anyone? ) but you gotta admit, people went crazy over her wearing it more than anything. And each time she cut her hair, she created more buzz. As for her fashion sense, well, we already know I adore her style(ist) and I’m not the only one: Almost every week there were new posts and pictures around the internet praising Rihanna for her style, and the few that she made bloopers with were quickly buried by the next batch of flyness.

As for her chart topping, ok, we know she’s no Leona Lewis when it comes to vocal ability, but you gotta give her her props. Her re-release of her album Good Girl Gone Bad proved to be a good move as the album which gave her 4 extra radio hits: If I Never See Your Face Again, Take A Bow, Disturbia, and Rehab (my favorite) Add that to her 2007 singles Umbrella, Don’t Stop the Music, Shut Up and Drive and Hate That I Love You; that have topped charts left and right the world over all year, I think it’s safe to say Rihanna has had a great year! I can’t wait to see what 2OO9 brings for her (especially in the fashion dept).

Check out some of my favorite looks from her this past year (L-R: January-December):

And speaking of chart topping, Katy Perry (crazy dresses and all) popped on the scene this year and had everybody kissing girls, boys, horses..er unicorns?, catsyou name it, and everybody liked it. Also, Lil Wayne (barf) sold more records than everybody and their momma combined, The Jonas Brothers became the obsessions of millions of teenaged girls, and Leona Lewis became our favorite European import with her awesome single Bleeding Love. And Britney! WOW, did she do her thing this year or what?! Like I said, she actually didn’t overdose on her own celebrity and she’s actually doing well! Go BRIT! Oh, and since I’m giving props, please don’t let me forget to mention Kanye West…I don’t have the patience for tantrums [/sarcasm]. Anywho, moving on. There were TONS more musicians and artists who made a positive impact and even some who made fools of themselves this year that it’s way too taxing to go through..but that’s why there’s google.

In TV Land, I have to say that So You Think You Can Dance was my FAVORITE “reality” show of the year. So much “dancer face” going on there I was in LOVE! I wonder if next season will be as great?! Also, another favorite show of mine, Gossip Girl became a fixation for the country; catfighting it’s way into our hearts amidst disapproval form stiff critics. Who woulda thought an actual book to TV show would be so goood!?! Also, Ameica’s Next Top Model, everyone’s guilty pleasure, had it’s share of controversy, and just like a Timex watch it kept ticking and will be back next year with more “model mayhem”. I CAN’T WAIT!

Who and what were the standout moments and people from 2OO8 for you? Also,on the same note, who and what are you looking forward to in 2OO9?
