straw set

Yeah, so you know how I’m obsessed with my hair? And how I constantly change my hairstyle? Right. So last night I decided to give a go at finger coils. What’s a finger coil? Well, it’s basically when you coil your hair around your finger (or rat-tail comb) in a spiral curl which you then set to dry. Think of it as a straw set, without the straws. The only difference to me, is that straw sets can be worked on almost any hair type, while finger coils are best for naturally curly hair. Anywho, yes, I gave myself a finger coil style…and it was horrible!

First let me start by saying it wasn’t the style that was completely horrible, and that the majority of fault is mine. See, I followed the directions from Miss Jessie’s, which is a salon devoted to natural/curly hair care. I mean, some of the before and afters, and especially the transitioning pictures are so amazing, that I was inspired to see if I could replicate their masterpieces.

So what went wrong? Well for one, I didn’t let my hair dry fully before going to bed….and ended up with a big puffy/coily mess when I woke up. Now as I’ve said, my hair has different textures so the front dried nicely into cute little spirals, but the back and middle fought a  battle and won. Which is why I’m wearing my hair in a little nice puff on the top of my head, with my “bangs” out, nice and curly. LOL

The great thing about this little fiasco is that I’ve learned that 1: do not sleep with wet sets….still wet. and 2: the front of my hair is the rebel. Regardless if it’s doing what I want or not, it never EVER conforms to the rest of my head…I don’t know if that’s a blessing or a curse. o.O

Have you ever had a hair disaster?

Unfortunately (or maybe not?) I can’t find my camera to show the finished results, but I’ll search for it tonight, and if I find it, I’ll update with a pic. LOL. but don’t get too excited, because it doesn’t look that bad.
