February 13th, 2009: The madness began today. Here are the highlights.
1) Rag & Bone Synopsis: Hippity Hipsters Anonymous. The hottest ticket Downtown, with plenty of tailored pieces in a somber color palette. I like the jackets and a few of the dresses. Not exactly wow-inducing though. More »
Here is the most commercialistic romantic holiday of the year, and I will admit that I actually cannot stand this holiday. Why? Here are several reasons: 1) Too pink. 2) Represents commercialism. 3) Too mushy. 4) TOO PINK.
The only good thing about V-Day for me is that those chocolates go down half-price the day after V-Day, hahaha! Oh! The other good thing is that certain classical and instrumental music sounds really good despite its “romanticism” attached to it! Here are some classical and other instrumental pieces that most people should recognise and play on the most pinkaphobic lovey-dovey day of the year. More »

Okay maybe not exactly. Watching another informercial has led me to the Spin Lash, a mechnical eyelash brush that supposedly “lines, coats and curls” all at once.
I’m pretty skeptical when it comes to these fantastical brushes that promise perfect lashes and retribution; however, this one could be different. It obviously spins as you put it on which helps you separate and evenly coat your lashes. It’s been highly recommended by fashion magazines like Vogue, Glamour and Elle but again what hasn’t. More »

You know how they say everyone has a twin? Or at least someone who looks uncannily like them? Well I happen to think that there are a ton of celebrities out there who look like they dropped from the same family tree. It’s really bizarre though, because many times, casting directors straight up overlook this fact and cast roles based on who’s name is going bring in the bucks, many times disregarding talent….or at least that’s what it seems. Of course talent is essential, but I think being able to truly get the audience to believe there’s a relationship between characters is good too. SO, with that in mind, how about we play a game. Imagine you’re a casting director and it’s time to pick your cast…who would you choose? More »

Well this post is quite self-explanatory. I love quotes. Especially when they’re seemingly meant for the exact situation you’re going through in your life at that moment. It’s really interesting to see how something said possibly hundreds of years ago can still ring true nowadays. I also like that because everyone has a different story to tell (life), the same quote can mean different things to different people. This is why I’m not going to really give an explanation of why a certain quote is special to me. I’d rather you know that it is, but still be able to form your own opinion/perception about the quote, and if it strikes your fancy, feel free to adopt it as your own fave. So here they are, in no particular order:

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and this definitely calls for some extra sap in the love life department. But ever the practical realist, I’m out to remind you all that you can either let Vday be a way for your man to think you’re hopelessly in love with him, or a way to get him falling hopelessly in love with you. Yay! It’s almost that time again! Yep, that’s right! NY Fashion Week starts this Friday Feb. 13th! Only two weeks a year does our fair city delight in the revelries of the fashion elite and I love every minute of it! Okay, so last Fashion Week back in September there were some horrible weather catastrophes (i.e. the freak hurricane that ruined my show and my hair) but I am optimistic that the weather will stay nice for next week. I can’t wait to get in the tents and give you guys front row coverage of a some of my favorite designers, such as Adam, Miss Sixty, DVF, Erin Fetherston, and the Barbie show. FYI the tents will be moving to Lincoln Center in 2010, so Bryant Park will, sadly, be a thing of the past soon enough. Although, most designers aren’t showing in the tents this season. Actually, the majority of shows during Fashion Week are off-site. More »

Remember how I blogged about the sticker picture chocolates (purikura)? Well some fellow nerd has followed up on the idea and made it into a wedding present.
The gift was given to a man who made a pixel-ecentric wedding. All the gifts, invitations, cake, everything, had the bride and groom’s iconic pixel couple image. It’s really cute to be honest.
Well in honor of his nerdiness, his friend was thoughtful enough to order purikura chocolates with that iconic pixel couple on the wrapper. Aw!

To be honest, I am not interested in fashion and all that mumbo jumbo. However, if there’s one time period where I like their fashion and lifestyles, it would be the 1920s. I just love that era. The flapper girls, the mafias, the prohibition, the speakeasies, the swing music and dance, and the Lost Generation era . . . GUH. Yes, I like that time period. Then again, I’m not the only one, apparently! A friend of mine posted up a blog entry on how she did applied make-up in the 1920s styles. Go here for pictures and instructions. Go check this out! I think this is really helpful. Too bad I don’t wear make-up myself — otherwise, I’d try this out!

Yeah pretty much. I’ve been hunting these shoes down like a maniac possessed since I saw them some two years ago in LUIRE magazine. I mean, how cute are they? I’d never seen anything so awesome that I knew I had to have them… the only problem was LUIRE is a Japanese fashion magazine. How was I supposed to get them!? At first I thought they’d just go down in my book of imports that I’ll never own, but then I found that they were actually American made. I can not tell you how stoked I was with this bit of news, and so my journey towards owning them began. More »

I can’t believe I haven’t heard about this until now, but the make-up line E.L.F. ( Eyes, Lips, and Face) was bought out by Nordstrom and needs to re-package all their products with the Nordstrom name on it. To that end, they’re selling all of their E.L.F. packaged makeup for ONE DOLLAR. $1. And a flat shipping rate of $7. So buy up a whole ton of makeup with some friends and family and take advantage of this amazing deal!
I got some brushes, eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara, facial wedges, and color sticks, and combined with orders from a few of my friends, we can split shipping so that I’ll be paying something like $9 or $10 for the equivalent of $60 or $70 worth of makeup. Go crazy!

I just had some kiwi juice/smoothie this week and discovered that it just reinforced my dislike for that fruit. A shame since I’m not a big fruit fan to begin with . . . and as a girl, I need that vitamin C for my skin and whatnot. Luckily, though, I have a few fruits I adore and do not mind eating on a regular basis. More »

Remember back when I said the easiest way to give yourself a new look is to get your eyebrows done? Well I’m feeling like I need them done and I suck at taking my own advice, it’s insane: I haven’t had my eyebrows done in almost two years. OMG YES I SAID TWO WHOLE YEARS. But! It’s not that bad since I’ve got naturally thin and arched eyebrows. It’s just that they’re starting to look messy (to me) and there’s the fact that I just want to try something new. I’ve done waxing and tweezing before, but I think I’m going to go ahead and get them threaded. Like I said before, threading just looks way cool, and it’s also cleaner looking.
Turn up the heat between the sheets this Valentine’s Day in some very chic and sexy lingerie. Australia’s own Hopeless Lingerie make sleepwear and lingerie for women who love vintage styling and meticulously constructed garments. Much of the sewing is hand-finished, using techniques to ensure the longevity of each piece. Sure it’s a bit (okay a lot) more expensive than Vicky’s Secret, but these are no ordinary mall undies. I especially love the silk high waist Petal Briefs ($195) with the silk Daisy bra ($150). All items are available at www.etsy.com. Okay, so I can’t afford to spend $200 on underwear, but if I could I would invest in these beautiful pieces. Now if only I had a Parisian Honeymoon Suite where I could wear these hopelessly romantic pieces (and a beau who would pay for them). But then I wouldn’t be wearing them for too long (wink, wink). It seems that you don’t always get free stuff if you work on a TV show.
The stage manager for Lipstick Jungle was caught stealing $30,00 worth of designer clothing. Apparently she had been Ebaying the items for some extra cheddar. Unluckily for her, employees of French design Sylvia Toledano caught her red handed and she was turned in.
Why in the world would you sell designer items instead of keeping them?
I remember back when this book came out it caused a lot of stir, good and bad…some were saying it was too harsh, and others were saying it was just what some women needed to hear. Well, at the time I was too young to care about dating, so I was just an innocent bystander. Now, they’ve made the book into a movie, and even tho I still don’t care much for the dating game, it looks like a really cute movie. It doesn’t look like a complete “chick flick” and I like all of the actors involved, so I may cough up the dough to go check it out. More »
February 25th at 8pm Eastern Time marks the return of my favorite Tyra-centric show, America’s Next Top Model! Yay! But if one hour a week is not enough for you, nor the VH1 marathons, fear not, for the ANTM Book is coming! Full of 144 pages of ferocity, the “Fierce Guide to Life” is due out in April. While I’m a huge fan of the show, I think I can live without the book. But if you want to learn how to “rock a crop top from Hot Topic” or how to apply makeup or the important points of “runway etiquette” you should pick up the book. Not to mention, this book covers how to keep hydrated, how to fit clothes to your body, and understanding that “beauty starts on the inside. Be fierce ladies or pack your bags and go home. More »

I love Scrubs. I started out being a casual watcher, only watching if it just happened to be on, but over the last winter break, I slowly became a fan of the show. It’s hilariously quirky, and it’s practically become one of the few shows that I make time to watch. Seriously, I anticipate when Scrubs is coming on the same way I itch for Gossip Girl and Top Model (which btw is back on the 25th, WOOT!) Anywho, back to Scrubs. Like I said it’s so weird that sometimes I wonder if it isn’t more realistic than say…ER. I mean my oldest brother works in a hospital and he’s a Goof Troop, so it’s possible that Scrubs is an exaggeration of what really goes on…right? Well whatever the case, here’s a short list of my favorite Scrubs characters.
I’m not too sure if I’m going to be up for any Valentine’s Day partying if the weather keeps looking like it does today, but if you know for a fact that you want to go out, then check out Going’s Valentine’s Day page. Remember back when I said Going was perfect for finding stuff to do in the city to fit your budget? Well Valentine’s Day is no exception. Of course the city will be congested with Valentine’s parties left and right the weekend before and probably after the actual day, but why go to just another club that’s gonna play the same music? Why not try something new? Going’s got some really interesting events listed…here’s a few that I thought sounded like fun…or just different from the norm.
