Flowers are nice, yes? Chocolate boxes are nice too, yes? Well a box of bloomin’ cupcakes is even better.

After graduating from Parsons School of Design, Keavy MacPherson Landreth, an artist with a sweet tooth, founded the the Kumquat Cupcakery in 2007, creating a unique style of miniature cupcakes which quickly became a hit in New York. She sells her cupcakes in Williamsburg’s Artists & Fleas and takes orders from her website [sorry guys, it's all within NY].

“… the truffle-sized confections are as delicious as they are beautiful, and unlike some dry and too-sugary cupcakes we know, Landreth’s sophisticated bites are moist and robustly flavored.”

-Time Out New York

This year as a special for Valentine’s Day, there will be a Kumquat Valentine’s PopUp Shop at Kill Devil Hill at 170 Franklin St. from February 10-14 where you can purchase rose cupcakes– a box of 12 for $24 (+delivery) or a box of 24 for $48 (+delivery).

:( Oh well. It’s still pretty to look at.

On the bright side, they don’t look too hard to make. Taking it a step further, instead of just putting them in boxes, why don’t you try making a potted cupcake bouquet instead?

You can read how to do it step by step on Baa Baa Cupcake and then watch the video below to learn how to ice your cupcakes.

Good luck!

Ooh I’ve never had Kumquat Cupcakery, but I’ve heard they are amazing! She has a cute blog too where she posts pics of all of her new cupcakes and her catering creations for parties!
