Half Italian, half Canadian artist Camilla d’Errico had a love for comics and Saturday morning cartoons as a child. It was during her first trip to the San Diego Comic-Con in 1998 was where she decided she wanted to illustrate comic books for a living. She has illustrated for Avril Lavigne’s graphic novel entitled Make 5 Wishes and Nightmares and Fairy Tales by Serena Valentino. It was not until 2006 where she started her career in painting.

The girls in her paintings are doe-eyed and have enigmatic expressions. I find d’Errico’s most evocative pieces involve animals, which add a strange, surrealistic element to the girls’ expression. Playful, dark, odd, fantasy, and girly describe her anime-esque style. She is definitely one of my favorite female artists for all these reasons. Check out her official website for more of her work.
