It is time to bring out those cocktail shakers and martini glasses to celebrate the news that Mattel will be releasing Barbie and Ken versions of selected characters from the television show Mad Men. The series of dolls will be a part of their Barbie Fashion Model Collection and retail at $74.95 each.
Characters immortalized as Barbie and Ken will be Don Draper, his wife Betty, Roger Sterling, and, my personal favorite, Joan Holloway. There is no better union than between Mattel, which was founded in 1959, and Mad Men, which takes place in the 1960s. The face of vintage Barbie and fashions are ideal for this release.
Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner stated, “[On] some level it’s such a measure of success to see your characters embodied by Barbie.” Indeed.
