Not to steal Hello Kitty’s thunder, but Pankunchi is another Sanrio character worth knowing. Not because we previously mentioned Panda dogs earlier, but because let’s face it — pandas are freakin’ cuter. Even moreso when they happen to love carbs as much as we do. ‘Pan’ in Japanese means bread, making Pankunchi a Breadkunchi. Maybe kunchi is panda in Japanese? I’m such a terrible Asian for not knowing. ….I kid, I kid.

Anyway, according to Sanrio (Japan) this is all you need to know about Pankunchi:

Pankun is a baby panda who was abandoned in a forest where pandas live. His favorite possession is an old mitten that was in the box with him when he was abandoned. Pankun loves bread, and his tummy rumbles whenever he sees the two pieces of bread, Shokupan and Koppepan.

As you can see, Pankunchi was pretty much raised by pieces of bread. Not a bad way to grow up.
