It was not so much the free candy that was up for grabs on the table, but more of the visuals at artist Fiona Meng’s booth that caught my eye. Since I am a fan of feminine art, I was naturally drawn to the soft, colorful surrealism of her images. Currently based in San Francisco, Fiona (who is originally from Canada) grew up being heavily influenced by Japanese manga.

At the booth, there were various forms of her work for sale from postcards to reasonably priced prints that went for $5. I was amazed at the large canvases that were displayed behind the tables. I wish I took photographs of them, but forgot to.

Fiona was very polite and demure when I briefly spoke with her about her art. She even remembered me the following day when I stopped by her booth again, not for the candy but to look at her artwork for a second time.
