It was not so much the free candy that was up for grabs on the table, but more of the visuals at artist Fiona Meng’s booth that caught my eye. Since I am a fan of feminine art, I was naturally drawn to the soft, colorful surrealism of her images. Currently based in San Francisco, Fiona (who is originally from Canada) grew up being heavily influenced by Japanese manga. More »

I don’t know what it is about cute nondescript animated Japanese characters that makes me love them so much. Is it the fact that this video features a ‘thing’ with a faucet as a head? Or another ‘thing’ with a telephone for a head? Quite possibly. Aside from that, all I can gather is that one of them has attachment issues. From Ziggytek: Givori’s Calypso is an 18Kt gold-plated Nokia 8800 (itself a very basic and cheap unit), selling for AED 12,000 ($3,266 USD). Mother-of-pearl adorned, the fish scale motif hearkens to the Greek sea, from which Calypso draws its inspiration. Why do I keep covering this outrageous stuff?
