When you marry manga and fashion together, you’ll get something like what appears on the cover of POP Magazine’s upcoming September edition: Britney Spears as a bride inspired by the best manga has to offer. The photo shoot was directed by the infamous and artsy Takashi Murakami, and boy did he managed to make Britney look good.

Britney must be pleased with the results as well, as she stated in regards to the shoot: “I loved working with Takashi Murakami…I especially liked how he took high-end fashion and incorporated it with Japanese manga. We looked at a lot of character and artwork before we shot, so I could get a feel for what he was looking for. I was in Japan on my past promo tour, and I loved it.”

I’m not a big fan of Britney, but I have to say that Murakami definitely succeeded in bringing out the sweet (and dare I say “angelic?”) aspects of the pop singer. Maybe it’s just the lighting, but she looks gorgeous and I absolutely adore the Murakami accents on the cover, especially the hyperactive, smiling flowers. I’m also liking the concept and makeup Britney sports on the cover. It’s things like this that remind me how she originally earned the title of “pop princess.”

So what do you think of Britpop?
