I am such a huge fan of layers, as well as the endless variety of one outfit. Vests have always been a great touch to the layered look, but after receiving my halter knit vest with hood from Spicy Holic (courtesy of YesStyle), by the structure of this one item I have been able to find endless possibilities to it.
What first sold me on this item was that buttoning it up or leaving it open gave it two completely different looks, both very casual, but both giving off a different appearance. This style has no sleeve holes, I am not sure if this is a common thing or not, but I have never seen a vest with only one giant hole before, and this really interested me. I was playing around with the style, reversing it, turning it upside, trying to find a variety of ways to wear it, and I have found a few that I like very much.
Now since the vest is shorter than I had imagined, alternating the way I wear it can raise it up to a half shirt, some of these alteration could stand as a shirt alone, but some would be a little inappropriate because it wouldn’t cover much. So I would keep a tank top, or maybe a nice long sleeve shirt under it and wear it as an accessory shirt.
From experimenting I have been able to wear this as an one shoulder sleeve shirt (with the hood over the shoulder to make it look like a puffy sleeve), an off-the-shoulders half shirt with the buttons in either front or back (they both look great, and could pass off as a shirt all on its own), as well as even folding it up into a scarf. I know I could find a lot more ways, the possibilities are endless and that is why I absolutely love it.
The only things that are irking me is as I mentioned earlier I was expecting this to be a little longer. It hangs longer in the front, especially when left open, but from the back it barely even reaches to the tip of my hips, and I prefer the longer tops. Though that is all a matter of preference.
Talking about the way it was made, the buttons are very thin, and fragile, and the button holes feel pretty stretched and lose for them. It hasn’t posed as a problem where it comes unbuttoned yet, but I feel like I have to be really cautious with this, afraid that they will either break or come unbuttoned, the thread is not tide too tight on them either. They paper thin, even the last one has a chunk of black thread glued to it. Like I said, no problems have occurred, but I still feel the need to be more careful with how I button it, which I don’t really like.
Other than those two little things I am totally in love with this vest, I love how the knitting resembles a casual style sweater vest, and all the different ways to wear it. I am definitely going to get a lot of use out of this.
If you are into accessory-shirts I totally recommend you pick this up for yourself. You can get this at YesStyle for the list price of $20.00.
