Hannah Montana’s real-life counterpart, former Disney star Miley Cyrus, is the latest celebrity to dish out not-so-kind star on budding YouTube sensation, Rebecca Black.

Whilst preparing for her tour Down Under, Miley Cyrus told reporters of Australia’s Daily Telegraph that “it should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour.”

Rebecca Black’s viral video, Friday, has become a hot topic recently amongst many. It became an overnight phenomenon and recently surpassed the 67 million views mark on YouTube (quite a feat, really). However, it may have only gotten that many views because it was ridiculed by so many critics (Billboard called it “straight auto-tuned out of Hell).

Meanwhile, the random rapper in the video, Patrice Wilson, defended Black and said she was not to blame for the simple, childish lyrics. As he told the Los Angeles Times, he wanted the song to be simple and sweet. He also mentioned that pop songs are supposed to be catchy and addicting and make people want to remember them. He feels bad about the negative backlash Black has been receiving because it was he who wrote the lyrics and not she.

I smell jealousy here! Is Cyrus miffed about Black’s sudden shot to stardom? I find it ironic because Cyrus is pretty successful as an artist and she got her chance for fame with “Hannah Montana.” And with the Internet these days, anyone can be famous, be it for the “right” or “wrong” reasons.

She’s not the only one criticizing it. I mean, the only reason she’s famous is because there are so many people criticizing it. 


i think it going to get bad....... hope not.... 


if she isnt popular, she’ll die out on her own. and also, i doubt rebecca black will be able to go on tour with that one horrible song.

Yes, Miley’s right. This song is umm… terrible..? Ugh, idk, but yeah. I agree with the last statement. Even if you’re loved or HATED, you’re still popular.


I agree with Miley!!! It shouldn’t be that easy! And the only reason her video got so many views is because everyone’s telling their friends how much it SUCKS.


I think it’s alright to have opinions. Lets face the fact: Rebecca’s song is uber popular on Youtube but it’s not a great song. I can understand why Miley is frustrated since she worked her way up to where she is now. I think the news about Rebecca will die down really fast and will become another 15 minutes of fame celebrity.

I’m no fan of Miley but I think she’s right that you shouldn’t be able to put a song on Youtube and go on tour. That’s not really fair since all the other artists had to work so hard for it and I honestly think Rebecca Black’s video is getting so many views because people are curious about the criticism. Well, at least that’s the reason why everyone around me is watching it. Also, they think it’s funny to play it and annoy everyone....
