On Sunday, the 2011 Miss USA pageant happened. Miss California, 21 year old Alyssa Campanella, graciously beat out 50 other contestants to become the new Miss USA and wear the crown.
Her final gown was an unexpected pageant-rulebreaker. Campanella was intent to choose the emerald green gown for the competition instead of a more traditional pageant colors that are more subtle and tame. But I think it matches her reddish hair really well, so not a bad decision.
The custom-made gown was by designer Sherri Hill, who fashioned the bodice with French beads, sequins and Swarovski crystals on tulle, while the skirt was made from silk taffeta.

After this, Alyssa Campanella will go on to compete in Miss Universe 2011 on September 12 in Brazil.
