After a terrible car accident left both parties in intensive care at the ICU, they passed away shortly in the morning still holding hands. An Iowa couple, Gordan and Norma Yeager both around 90 years old passed away Oct 12th. Although they made it to the Hospital after the crash they passed away roughly 70 minutes apart from each other.

Their son David commented on the tragedy, “They’re very old-fashioned. They believed in marriage ’til death do you part”

Around 8 in the morning the couple decided to go for a quick drive, unfortunately Gordan “pulled away from the stop sign and failed to yield to a westbound vehicle” The other driver was unable to avoid hitting them, although he was also slightly injured in the crash he was treated and released shortly after. His wife on the other hand is still in the hospital. Both parties in the oncoming car were around the age of 65. Their son commented his mother had “internal bleeding and suffered a broken neck”

He released this statement, “She is currently stable but remains in the critical care unit,”adding“There will be a long road ahead for her recovery. ”

Another twist was that Yeager had a pending citation from the DMV, they wanted to revoke his drivers license. Those reasons will not be released due to privacy. They had married May 26th 1939, and had never been apart since. “They brought them in the same room in intensive care and put them together — and they were holding hands in ICU. They were not really responsive,” Dennis Yeager shared.

“It was really strange, they were holding hands, and dad stopped breathing but I couldn’t figure out what was going on because the heart monitor was still going,” said Dennis Yeager. “But we were like, he isn’t breathing. How does he still have a heart beat? The nurse checked and said that’s because they were holding hands and it’s going through them. Her heart was beating through him and picking it up.”

That is truly a Romeo and Juliet type of story, tragedy for both, and true love. I feel horribly bad about what had happened, and the poor woman still alive in the hospital might be paralyzed due to her neck injury! I don’t really think he should have been driving if they were trying to take his license away in the first place. Its a sad but in a way beautiful story!
