You would expect a huge birthday party for royalty, but Kate Middleton has chosen to have a rather quiet affair when she turns 30.

Palace officials confirmed that the Duchess of Cambridge’s celebration will be private and low-key, contrasting previous reports of an ’80s themed party featuring karaoke.

Such a decision actually seems appropriate, as Middleton has different responsibilities now as future queen.

Commentator Robert Jobson complimented the duchess, saying “She’s done very well, playing a very good supporting role to Prince William and complementing him as part of a team. We’ve not seen much of her, but when she’s in public she has performed with aplomb.”

While I agree that having a reserved celebration is fitting of Middleton’s current role in society, an ’80s themed party would have been nice.
