Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. recently joined Madonna’s performance of “Give Me All Your Luvin’” at the Super Bowl XLVI. Madonna performed a 12-minute medley but what got the audience’s attention was the middle finger that M.I.A. gave during the performance and now Madonna is furious at her.
The hand gesture didn’t just upset Madonna but also the organizers and audiences as well. A source stated to a British newspaper, “Madonna wasn’t impressed. She prides herself on professionalism.”
The source went on to say, “M.I.A did nothing similar in rehearsals. Nobody knew she was going to pull this stunt. Madonna wanted to put on a world-beating performance. But everyone ended up talking about this girl’s middle finger.”
Spokesperson for the NFL, Brian McCarthy apologized for the incident saying, “The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans.”
A source close to M.I.A. defended the singer by saying the hand gesture was done spontaneously due to adrenaline, “She wasn’t thinking. She was caught in the moment and she’s incredibly sorry.”
Although I understand the thing about being caught in the moment, M.I.A. is a celebrity and she should have been more professional. Poor Madonna!
