UK boyband One Direction could be facing some legal issues regarding their group name.
Days before One Direction launches its first North American tour on February 24, 2012, they discovered that have the same name as a US rock band. Fans of both groups are in an uproar debating who deserved the name more.
The American One Direction formed in California and released debut album The Light in February 2011. While the UK boys used to be solo competitors in the “The X Factor” and were allowed to continue in the competition only if they form a group. In July 2010, they were named One Direction.
Although it seems likely that the UK boyband will get to keep their name, they could hit problems when they take their tour the States. This will cause confusion specially in promotions and marketing. Based on how these disputes usually go, the US One Direction will most likely have to change its name, and this matter won’t end up in court.
