Popular British boyband One Direction have made their way to the top of the US Billboard chart with their “Up All Night” single, becoming the first ever UK group to make a number one debut on the chart. The group, produced by X Factor and now under Simon Cowell’s SyCo, have sold 176,000 copies of their debut album in just one week.
The boys stated, “It’s a dream come true.. We simply cannot believe that we are number one in America. We want to thank each and every one of our fans in the US who bought our album and we would also like to thank the American public for being so supportive of us.”
One Direction have already hit number 1 in home country UK with their very first album which has already sold over 4.2million copies worldwide. The last highest entry for a British group in the UK charts was when the Spice Girls debuted their “Spice” album back in 1997.
Simon Cowell said, “I couldn’t be happier for One Direction, it is an incredible achievement. They deserve it they have the best fans in the world.”
Congratulations to the boys, who have already made their names as huge successes (also in a country which is notoriously tricky to enter!) and will no doubt go on to celebrate more wins.
