Prom season is quickly approaching and that means all you ladies must find that beautiful dress so that you may dazzle the night away. If you love fairytales and those happily-ever-afters, why not step into this realm of fairytale dresses and be the ‘Belle’ (no pun intended) of the night? After all, fairytale dresses contain that whimsical element, the big poofy gown, a fantastical dream.
I’ve always imagined fairytale dresses to be slim and tiny from the waist up and flowing and poofy from the waist down. It just creates that magical feel that many young girls dream of when they’re young.

This dress here gives me a somewhat Belle-vibe. You know, from that one Christmas story movie. It also reminds me a wee of medieval times, where the the sleeves would be flowy and puffy, the bodice small and tight, and the skirt of the dress poofy. Given that Prom is the most elegant of the three high school dances, this dress speaks of much elegance. From the gold design on the bodice to the ruffles and flowers on the dress, you’ll find yourself receiving a red rose during Prom.

I love this blue color of the dress. It has a fantastical feel to it, like a fairy with the sparkles and the glitter. I half expected wings with the dress - I think wings would have completed the look. The dress also does come with a short-sleeve half jacket and again, the dress goes along with the poofy skirt. You’ll be seeing that theme throughout this post because after all, that’s one of my criteria for a fairytale-inspired prom dress.

This lavender-colored dress gives off one of the most perfect fairytale vibes. After all, it contains those ruffles that I’m so in love with and a soft lavender color gives the dress a dreamy look. Fairytale dresses don’t necessarily have to stand out - it can be simple, and simple can look very good, just like this dress. All this look needs is a little crown on top of your head and you’ll appear as if you walked out of a fairytale story.

A royal purple is an indicator of royalty, but this dress here gives fairytales an edgier look. The top consists of an ombre look, which I find interesting on a dress (I love ombre) and the frills and ruffles of the skirt itself are unique as they don’t look as traditional. If you also notice, the back of the dress appears to have a train, which is reminiscent of a fairytale look.

While this may look like a wedding gown, I say that it works perfectly as a prom dress. Though you might want to make sure that you’re in an area where, you know, there aren’t too many people because I can’t imagine it’d be too fun moving around where it’s crowded. Tangent aside, it has all the elements of a fairytale-inspired dress. The intricate designs on the bodice, the lace and frills, along with the flowers, and the train of the dress. Perhaps it’s a little too white, but hey, the Disney Princesses, aka fairytales, wore white dresses (albeit on their wedding days).

This particular burgundy dress is known as the “Cinderella” dress (though Cinderella’s dress was blue, if I recall correctly). Hey, if it’s called Cinderella dress, then it must certainly be a fairytale-inspired dress, right? (I see you nodding.) This dress is quite gorgeous and quite frankly, this works well at a prom. It’s simple, but the ruffles on the skirt of the dress have a whimsical appearance, as if you’re a princess back in the 1800s or so. I can definitely imagine wearing a dress and riding on a horse, only to have a prince in white help me down from the horse.

I’ll be the first to say: I love this dress. And not because I love blue (it’s only my favorite color). But this midnight blue dress is probably the most perfect fairytale-inspired prom dress out of this entire list. This is definitely one dress that I would’ve loved to wear for my Prom (though it’s probably quite expensive). The design is also quite intriguing: on the bodice of the dress, you have small stones and glitter that are placed in a random manner that gives one an impression of the night sky. There is a sash that wraps around from the waist all the way around and the dress is made out of silk (or so it appears), giving the dress a very lovely look. Oh, pair it with dangling earrings and necklace and you’ll have quite the stunning look!

I quite like this look as well - it’s a pale cream-colored dress that has a train and ruffles that cover part of the skirt; the other part of the dress reveals a lace design. The entire dress is whimsical in nature - it’s a soft look that makes the wearer look innocent and pure. Put your hair up in an elegant bun and it’ll make for a wonderful prom look and a memorable evening.

You may notice that this dress is the only dress that contains multiple colors - it’s for this very reason that this dress made it into this list. The multitude of colors found within this dress gives it quite a dreamy and beautiful look. A fairy-esque dress, wouldn’t you agree? Plus, with all of the sparkles and glitters on the dress, it does very well as a prom dress. The colors mesh well together, which gives it that dreamy look.

You may be wondering why Taylor Swift’s dress from Love Story was incorporated into this list. It’s simple, really. The song is like a fairytale in itself and this dress pretty much imbued the fantastical and whimsical elements I had in mind. Although it’s not as poofy as the other dresses, it still has that fairytale element - it’s definitely reminiscent of dresses worn back in the 1700s and so forth. The picture doesn’t show it but the dress does expand outward and end with quite a long train, giving that flowing look. And the whole look, it’s as if she stepped out of a fairytale. You probably won’t see this dress at Prom but I think it would make for a beautiful prom dress.
If you had to choose just one gown out of this list, which one would you choose? I would definitely choose that midnight blue gown - it was my favorite off the list!

Those are some puffy dresses. But they’re cute, if that’s what you’re looking for. They kind of remind me of those royal courts from the past.
Taylor Swift’s is nice.

Taylor Swift’s dress was really pretty and fairytale like. :3
The one you said it can be a wedding dress is really pretty. Must be pricey but probably nearly not as much as the most expensive prom dresses blog earlier.
