Years of sitting in front of a computer working or idly watching the next viral puppy video have finally paid off — for my optometrist, that is. As of this week, I am officially a Four Eyes. In all my near-sighted glory, I took advantage of Coastal’s free glasses for first time buyers promo and rested the fate of my eyesight on a pair of Love L756 eyeglasses in black. Hipster they may appear, but if you look closely, you’ll notice the very reason why I chose Love L756: Heart-shaped screws! Behold:

It was a gamble purchasing my very first pair of prescription glasses (ever) online based on the heart-shaped screws alone, but I just couldn’t resist. It was also a no-brainer to take advantage of Coastal’s free pair of glasses deal seeing as how optical boutiques tend to charge an upwards of $100, not to mention all the additional fees, bells and whistles. All I really paid for was special lens coatings and shipping (USPS). When all was said and done, my total came out to be $17.88 — not quite free, but much, much, much cheaper than going to an actual optical boutique!

With me only paying $17.88 for a pair of glasses, you might be wondering whether Coastal is legit. I honestly don’t know how they make any money with this promo, but I’m proof that you can safely get your free pair of glasses and have them shipped to you without problems!

I’m also happy to say that the Love L756 eye glasses are currently making for a great first pair. What I love most about this pair aside from the heart-shaped screws, is that the glasses are lightweight — lightweight enough to make me feel like I’m not wearing glasses at all! I also didn’t need to make any additional adjustments when they arrived, which is a plus. Here’s a photo of me with the glasses on:

It’s also a plus that my purchase helped benefit the Change The View Project, a non-profit that donates a pair of glasses for every pair of glasses purchased on Coastal (from a list of approved designers). My glasses also arrived with a blue hard glasses case, lens cleaner wipe and additional screws.

As for my vision, I’m going to assume that the prescription was followed correctly — the world is a much more crisper, clearer place to me now. It’s amazing that I’ve gone this long without bothering for an eye exam! What seemed like me trying on a friend’s glasses ‘for fun’ became a wake up call.

Overall, the experience Coastal provided for my first free pair of glasses was a fantastic one and I’m glad that I saved a lot of money on my first pair! The turnover time from ordering to shipping is also pretty fast. I ordered one night, the next day it was being assembled and the day after, it was shipped. The first-pair-free promo is still on, so I would recommend taking advantage of it while you can.
