We’re nearing the final days of 2008. It’s been such a long (stressful) year but there have been some good things that came out of it. Although I wish we were still in 2007 (my Senior year of HS), I’m happy to be moving forward.

But before we do, let’s recap on the best of 2008! Of course it’s all my personal opinion.

So I know it’s almost Christmas now but I finally decided to upload these photos! I don’t necessarily celebrate holidays, including my birthday, so this is as good as it’ll get for me.

These photos are from Thanksgiving and more or less Christmas. As you can see, NY goes all out for Xmas and why wouldn’t they? It’s the best time of the year. Berdoff Goodman is known for their window displays and they are quite the sight. Also if you’re around Grand Central, you can check out the light show and the Aquos LCD Christmas tree.

In case you’re wondering, I spent the Thanksgiving Day eating at a busy Dim Sum restaurant and later walking around Chinatown. I managed to snap a few photos. Nothing special honestly but my cake was really good.

Sorry for not posting more often, the last week has been absolutely crazy for me because I’ve been silly enough to think that planning a fashion show at the end of the semester wouldn’t be such a big deal. Let’s just say that after this, I have incredible newfound respect for what I saw at NYC Fashion Week.

My term as APA Heritage Chair for the Asian American Students Alliance at Yale is ending, so I wanted to do a final event that would be fun, interesting, culturally-relevant, and totally girly. Why not a Pan-Asian Fashion Show? And to make it a little more interesting, I planned on working with student designers on campus to redesign some of the clothing so that we would have both traditional and “modernized” pieces on the catwalk.

Conceptually what could possibly be so hard about a fashion show - people strut around for 10 min or so and that’s it. But there are SO many elements to it that you never really think about until you actually try to put one together - lighting, music, fitting, runway training, photographers, programs, volunteers, publicity, vip guests, the list is endless. Even things like the name took forever (we originally wanted “Fusion” but there’s already an event on campus, so we decided to give a nod to French haute couture and call it “Melange“).

In honor of the upcoming “giving season”, I present to you the most charitable little boy ever. I saw this video today and was so blown away at the last wish by this 11 year old with lukemia and 2 weeks to live. He just wanted to feed the homeless. No meeting basketball stars, or rockstars, or anything superficial, just to feed the hungry. Serious, probably when I was 11 I would have rather met Shannon Miller or Kim Zmeskal (old school olympic gymnasts) than feed the hungry. Now try not to cry when you watch this video. GirlyBubble loves Party 4 a Cause, which is why we’re super excited about their Rockin’ 90s Dance Party!

One of my favorite dance parties at Yale is a themed 90’s party called “Nostalgia,” and since this sounds like a bigger, crazier version of that it will be guaranteed EPIC. If you’re as nostalgic as I am about the bygone days of Urkel, “Show me the money!”, Clueless (as if…), Screech, The Macarena, Sega Genesis, Ace Ventura (allllrighty then), Ace of Base, Full House, Friends, and the original boy bands, you have to come and show off your version of The Carlton Dance!

If that’s not enough reason to join the party, they’ll also be raffling off great prizes throughout the night like restaurant gift certificates and tickets. Best of all, net proceeds will be going to support a really worthy cause: Habitat for Humanity - NYC and their housing development program for low-income families. Having fun while doing good is what Party 4 a Cause is all about, and we are looking forward to seeing you there!

WHEN: Friday, November 14 @ 10:30pm
WHERE: Stitch NYC, 247 W. 37th Street (between 7th and 8th ave), New York, NY 10018

$10 suggested donation at the door. You must be 21 or older to attend. Attendance is limited, so be sure to RSVP at the facebook or event page. 90’s clothing is optional, but come on - it’s a 90’s party, how can you NOT dress up according to the theme?! If you’re at a loss for ideas, just think Madonna during her “Ray of Light” days and you’ll be good to go ;)

Ever since Cosplay Day at Kinokuniya in August, there was one particular cosplayer that caught my eye; however, I didn’t have the opportunity to get to know her which nearly broke my heart. Her cosplay at the time was Rhyme from the Square Enix game The World Ends With You. I absolutely loved it and was able to get a quick photo.

It was then by chance that I saw her again at New York Anime Festival last weekend cosplaying in a completely different outfit. To say the least she looked stunning in her handmade cosplay and this time I made sure to get to know her.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. (Name, age, height, hobbies, etc. Anything you want to include).
My name is Jennifer (or Kaori, whichever works for you) and 22 years old. I like to read manga, novels, watch T.V., play video games, sewing and hanging out with friends. I don’t really watch anime because I don’t have the time, and sometimes, it’s just not as good as the manga. I come off as quiet and shy when people first meet me cause I tend to get very nervous. I never know what to say, so I’m always quiet. Some people take it the wrong way, and think otherwise. Please be patient with me, and I will open up. It just nerves get the better of me.

I’ve been MIA for the last two days because I spent the weekend at the Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business Intercollegiate Business Conference (HUWIB IBC), which featured a wide range of notable and powerful women speakers who hold high ranking positions at companies such as Google, Dreamworks, Travelocity, and Pinkberry. Bobbi Brown herself was the keynote speaker and walked us through the philosophy of her makeup beliefs and brand. Luckily for me I got some free makeup courtesy of Bobbi Brown and a copy of the Transformers DVD from Dreamworks in addition to tons of great business advice/inspiration, but unfortunately no free Pinkberry or Gphone… can’t wish for too much =P

I feel compelled to give a quick assessment of the Bobbi Brown makeup samples I received as a note of thanks for the freebies. My sample kit consisted of copper penny shimmer wash eye shadow and sandwashed pink lipstick.

I made the shortest trip ever into the city today - a grand total of one and a half hours pretty much entirely spent at Té Casan, a shoe boutique in SoHo made famous by Natalie Portman’s vegan shoe collection sold there. The COO is a member of 85 Broads, a women’s career networking organization, and hosted this shopping/networking party at Té Casan for the women of 85 Broads. I’ve been a member of 85 Broads for a year and decided to go check it out.

Essentially a shopping party for loaded career women means lots of shnazzy pantsuits, champagne, and trying on boxes upon boxes of $400 shoes. As a poor college kid I can’t actually afford limited edition designer boots (although I tried a few pairs on and they’re SO comfortable/cute I almost died). Nor did I have a lot of time to stick around and schmooz. But it definitely brought the store to my attention since I frequent SoHo a lot and for some reason have never gone far enough west to find Té Casan. I was also able to talk to Ayesha D’Souza, the hostess, who is gorgeous and seems like a typical 85 Broads woman - ibanker who went to Wharton and now runs a retail startup business - fabulous and successful and glamorous!

This past Wednesday September 12 was the Seventeen Magazine Rock-N-Style Concert and Fashion Show in honor of Fashion Week here in NYC. I had the privilege of attending but didn’t get to enjoy all of it.

I arrived about 30 minutes late which didn’t seem to make a difference as we were still able to enter as press. Thanks to Jessica and the numerous Seventeen staff for being so kind. Unfortunately it was raining and made it really difficult for ChelseaDan and me to take photos and maneuver around. Luckily there weren’t as many press people (5 at most in addition to a few young bloggers); however, the red carpet was a little cramped as it wasn’t that big. I didn’t realize photographers could be so pushy sometimes. Nonetheless, the celebrities were there: Delta Goodrem, Jaslene Gonzales, Donnie and Nastia Liukin to name a few.

Wednesday night’s party was so much fun! But first, before I give my take on the night, I’d like to officially apologize to all of the people who’s toes I stepped on (figuratively and literally). Also, I’d like to say mucho thank you to Scene PR for sponsoring our little shindig! Woot!

And now, for those of you who could not make it out: you really missed out on some fun! hehe! The model competition was feirce, and I was so suprised that so many models participated! There was an abundance of beautiful faces, all lined up and ready to strike a pose for the photographers in the VIP pit. It was a little hectic, and we almost ran out of time for each model, but everything worked out great, thanks to the cooperation and understanding of everyone involved.
