Remember how a few weeks ago I ordered a bunch of stuff online for Black Friday? Everything I ordered has come, things have been returned, etc. and here are two things I learned from the whole thing:

1) I returned a couple of items from New York & Company and American Eagle. The New York & Company items included a pair of pants I wanted to exchange for a larger size, but it turns out that they don’t do exchanges - they just credit you for the item and you go and rebuy it using a code for free shipping (4341 in case any of you want to go and use it now! They’re having a huge sale…)

2) Online shopping is really easy and opens up a lot of options that aren’t available in-store. But I’m pretty picky so half the things that come in the mail end up not being as good or fitting as I imagine, so I end up losing money by sending them back. So it’s a lot of fun (I LOVE getting packages) and I’ll be doing more in the future, but for the sake of my credit card line and the hassle, I’ll stick with my semi-annual outlet spree. Especially once New Year’s ends and the clearances start!

So, awhile ago, I made a few posts about the fashion disasters of Katie Perry, Lil’ Mama, Raven and Beyonce. I kinda felt upset about it for some time, because I felt like someone was out to get these ladies, and decided to make them look like FOOLS in public. And so, in an attempt to prove to myself that looking like who-did-it-and-won’t-admit-it is not the only look these chicas have to choose from, I went pic hunting. I actually left out Beyonce’s better looks, because, well, I don’t think she’s had that many WTF moments in her fashion choices lately. I did however, dig around for some proof of flyness from Katy, Mama, and Rae….

As we all know, Rihanna for the most part has had the best fashion stylist this whole year. Aside from a very few small instances where her outfits were questionable, the girl has been impeccably dressed from head to toe. Many people are saying her style is edgy, punk-ish, or funky (the good kind) and I guess you could say that, because ever since she cut her hair, she has been pushing the envelope for what is considered stylish dress for ladies within the R&B/Hip Hop  and Pop communities.

Paris Hilton and Benji Madden had been together for 9 months until recent rumors said they broke up. Paris’ rep had claimed the two were still together but after Vanessa had blabbed off, they were forced to confirm. What a bitch!

BFF contestant Vanessa Fontana told all when being interviewed by Life & Style that “Paris and Benji have split.” She then continued to say that nothing happened between Paris and ex-beau Staros Niarchos – “Paris and Benji were loyal and faithful to each other.” Some best friend eh?

I feel bad for Paris although I never really thought her and Benji went well together.

I’ve recently been using some acronyms around my girl friends to gossip about boys and relationship issues that I have to stop and define because they’ve never heard it used before. Here are a few shorthands, some common knowledge and some not, that are in my vocabulary and have made talking about these things that much easier/funnier ;)

OTP - On the Prowl
Ex. My boyfriend and I just broke up so I’m back OTP.

DTR - Define the Relationship
Ex. I’ve been hooking up with this guy but I don’t know what he’s thinking. Is it time to DTR?

LDR - Long Distance Relationship
Ex. LDRs are tough but I believe they can work if both sides are fully committed and the LD will end in some foreseeable future.

SO - Significant Other
Ex. Boyfriends, husbands, fiancees, etc.

PDA - Public Display of Affection
Ex. He’s not big into PDA, but it’s not ridiculous of me to want to hold hands in public sometimes, right?

TLC - Tender Loving Care; ISO - In Search Of
Ex. I’m ISO TLC.

Non Faves? Wouldn’t that mean I don’t like them? YES. These are, in fact, some of my favorite pet peeves. If that is even possible. See, lately, I feel like I’m being accosted by all of my pet peeves at once, so why not just vent about them? Right? I mean, it takes one to have the other, so letting you girls and guys know what gets my goat isn’t that far of a stretch. I promise this isn’t going to become a regular rant, lol promise.

So the latest update on the boy story I started a while ago is not a great one - we’re no longer together =/ However, it’s definitely not as devastating as it sounds so this is not a boohoo post. It’s actually been a good thing in some ways, i.e. giving me an excuse to do cathartic Grey’s Anatomy catch-up sessions and traipse around campus in ridiculous heels with Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” blaring through my earbuds. I love the “Single Ladies” song, and now can fully enjoy it with my new single lady status!

Anyway, if you thought you were reading a relationship-talk post, think again. This is actually a DANCE post (I just couldn’t resist the personal life update and segue into the real content). I’ve been watching two dance videos of the “Single Ladies” song: the sexy hip-shaking high heeled original Beyoncé music video and a much funkier street hip-hop choreography to the same song by Luam (probably the best hip hop teacher at Broadway Dance Center in NYC - check out her site Wild Child Nation: Love Understands All Music).

Click “more” to see the vids and commentary. And check back some other time for relationship talk (I’ve been piling up a substantial amount of breakup experience and advice).

What is it with stylists NOT knowing how to style!? Seriously, it seems like all of the award shows are just train wreck central. I recently went slack-jawed over Katy Perry’s …I don’t know what to call it, and NOW I’ve come across some pics of Beyonce’s outfit (shudders) and Lil’ Mama’s get up (po’ thang), not to mention Raven Symone’s green potato sack. I’m pretty sure they themselves would NEVER have co-signed these outfits if it weren’t for the hordes of yes men and women out to secretly ruin them.

I just got wind of a new site in the makings that might be very relevant for all the potential business girls here who use both Facebook and LinkedIn and wish they could have a combo of both. Scheduled to launch on January 1st, PinkLinx.com is a self described “online business networking community for women. Connect with women from all industries including established career women, women entrepreneurs and women just starting their careers.”

A comment left by Theresa Petruzzelli, President at US Media International on the LinkedIn Forte Foundation group’s discussion board:

LinkedIn and Facebook combo - not a dream any longer

Hi Ladies, I have been reading alot of the comments in many of the women’s linkedin groups. Many women feel Linkedin is not social enough and while facebook is more social, it is not professional enough. 9 months ago, I myself, noticed the lack of social applications on linkedin but thought facebook wasn’t viewed as quite professional enough for my clients to visit. PinkLinx was born. PinklInx.com is launching January 1st. It is a combination of linkedin and facebook. It will be the only international womens business networking community on the internet of its kind. Please feel free to sign up for the email notification to be alerted when the site launches in January. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

I sense a competitor to the Forte Foundation and 85 Broads (established women’s business networks with extensive reach). But for what it’s worth, PinkLinx is certainly a cute name. Guess we’ll have to wait until January to make any assessment.
