United Kingdom artist INSA was asked by Tate Britain, a gallery located in London, England, to create pieces inspired by the work of artist Chris Ofili. One of the works INSA created were a pair of crazy heels called “Anything goes when it comes to (s)hoes…” (The title of the piece is a lyric from a Big Daddy Kane song.) More »

Japanese illustrator Mokaffe really loves combining two of the things I love the most into her illustrations: dessert and girly art! A lot of my favorite works by her involve dessert. Not that you’re surprised or anything. For the record, I’ll have you know that I do not drool over my laptop all day or lick my screen all day. You might want to restrain yourself when you see these babies: More »

With close bonds to her mixed Japanese-European heritage, Nanami Cowdroy grew up amid contrasting cultures and surroundings that greatly influenced her distinctive style of art and creative expression. Her work is fluid and elaborate, given strength and depth through her intricate pen and ink techniques. More »

Half Italian, half Canadian artist Camilla d’Errico had a love for comics and Saturday morning cartoons as a child. It was during her first trip to the San Diego Comic-Con in 1998 was where she decided she wanted to illustrate comic books for a living. She has illustrated for Avril Lavigne’s graphic novel entitled Make 5 Wishes and Nightmares and Fairy Tales by Serena Valentino. It was not until 2006 where she started her career in painting. The wedding of a woman is one of the most important days of her life. Many months go into planning for decorations, ceremony, reception, and finding the right dress. Lukka Sigurdardottir has created a wedding dress made out of cake, which are two of the most important things for a wedding to have. More »

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of…knitting, only it’s kawaii. Often times, things like animals or other totally useless but oh-so-cute items are made. Just when you thought the purpose of being crafty was to make things with purpose! I suppose there’s hope for me. Here are some random picks of cute amigurumi stuff that I came across on Flickr. In addition to being huge on romantic comedies, TV shows and vampire books that start with the letter “T” and end in “wilight,” I am a sucker for romantic photographs. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Show me pictures of sunsets, people holding hands or witty romantic sayings and I’ll probably eat it up for breakfast, lunch and dinner.Below are 10 romantic images that pull on my heart strings really hard. Born and raised in Chicago, Lawrence Yang first started out as a computer science major, who switched to biology, and then finally finished with industrial design where he found his passion in interaction design art.

Influenced by graffiti and traditional Chinese painting, he works with ink, marker, and watercolor to communicate atmosphere and emotion, trying to create order out of chaos (& vice versa). More »

Anyone can take a picture and claim themselves to be a photographer, but there are only a few who actually have the right to call themselves one. Photographer Ye Rin Mok is one of those few who I consider very talented. I have been a fan of hers for a few years now. Born in Korea and educated in Southern California, Mok’s photographs have been featured in magazines such as Bust, W, Nylon, and Wired. More »

Artist Scott Hove’s Cakeland art installation shows that you can have your cake but not eat it. Why? His installation is composed of various sculptures that resemble the most delicious cake you’ve ever tasted…only nothing is made out of cake. The point of this is to express the fact that the nature of real cake is fleeting — it’s perfect, then you digest it and it’s gone. The cakes in this installation however, last forever. Just don’t eat anything. More »

The internet loves cats as evidence shows with the ridiculous popularity of lolcats. I, admittedly, have spent many hours wasted on I Can Has Cheezeburger awing, laughing, and crying at the adorable kittehz. I love cats as much as the internet, even when they wear clothes. In Tim Barber’s photography series, “Kitty City,” cute kittens not only wear clothes, but are living everyday life in the city as we humans live it. These photographs are featured in Fuse Gallery’s exhibit Animalania. More »

Recently I made a new friend in my design class [yay!] who introduced me to the works of a very talented and compassionate artist from Portland, Oregon, named Kurt Halsey. His paintings and drawings are very simple and sweet, as is his view on animals:

I cherish and am consumed by the companionship and magic of animals. I do not eat them or their by-products, wear their skin, or support companies that torture them for science. It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal. More »

According to good ‘ol wiki (because I could not have put it any better myself),

“Latte art is a style of pouring steamed milk into a shot of espresso that creates a pattern or design on the surface of the resulting latte. It can also be created or embellished by simply “drawing” in the top layer of foam. Latte art is particularly difficult to create consistently, due to the demanding conditions required of both the espresso shot and milk. This, in turn, is limited by the experience of the barista and quality of the espresso machine. The pour itself, then, becomes the last challenge for the latte artist.” More »

If more fruits and vegetables were served in this manner, children would probably be more inclined to eat them– it’s just a thought, albeit a fanciful and impractical one. Here are a few fruit and vegetable sculptures mixed in along with some more elaborate ones you can admire. More »

Merriam-Webster describes a femme fatale as “a woman who attracts men by an aura of charm and mystery.” Dunny is a combination of the words devil and bunny (based from an original prototype). When they are combined, they make up Kidrobot’s new series of Dunnies. The Dunny Fatale series will seduce you with female artists such as Kathie Olivas, Junko Mizuno, Toofly, Tara McPherson, and Amanda Visell, among others. More »
