Yes another treat! This one is a chocolate mousse with strawberries. My boyfriend, again, bought it from Chinatown.

It wasn’t as good as it looked. The mouse was really fluffy and made me feel like I was eating a chocolate cloud. I guess it would be a good thing if I liked eating marshmallows. I was really disappointed since it looked so good. I guess some things are better seen then eaten!

I’m not really a chocoholic despite popular belief, I just like to indulge in it every once in awhile.

I recently received these European chocolate candies from a friend. After trying one of the white chocolate ones, I realized the center was filled with alcoholic crème. Note that I don’t drink so when my mouth was filled with bitterness, I immediately gave the rest to my boyfriend to eat.

However I couldn’t resist trying another one because the flavor was coffee. For whatever reason, this one wasn’t filled with alcoholic crème or if it was I could barely taste it over the coffee. It was definitely more enjoyable then the previous one.

According to recent studies, anthropologists have found that women in the Jomon period were addicted to sweets. They studied the teeth of 300 bodies buried in Niigata, Japan showing that there was an unusually high level of tooth decay.

While that’s interesting, who doesn’t love sweets? For as long as I can remember, chocolate has been the number 1 favorite among women especially during that time of the month. I have a jar of chocolate sitting on my desk right now just in case of emergencies. Sweets have always been my pick me up when I can’t get through a tough time or just when I have trouble concentrating. That extra small punch of sweetness is my addiction and who can blame me? Anything that tastes good and makes you feel good is hard to resist. Of course I’m only referring to food!

Okay, I admit right here and now that I love junk food, especially when I am in the right mood for them. I enjoy having them for snacks, and whether they are sweet or salty, anything is good to go for me. Normally, though, I prefer Korean snacks over the American ones. However, due to China’s melamine scandal, I’ve been forbidden to eat Korean snacks for . . . over a month now. Therefore, I had to turn to the American alternative. Right now my current favourite snacks are listed below.

Who doesn’t love things that are sweet and make you feel better? This past week my workload has hit an all time high and as such, I’ve been feeling miserable. So late last night I decided to take a break (let’s say around 4AM) and go out to a dinner to get some food. Not the brightest idea considering the hour but it really helped boost my morale which got me on the idea of what my favorite comfort foods are.

I thought I would grow out of desserts as I got older but that hasn’t been the case so far. When I was a kid, I would eat sweets all the time which gave me a lot of cavities but I didn’t care! Desserts are just too good to give up especially since there’s so many of them to choose from. There’s a lot I haven’t tried yet but I’m definitely going to one day. But for now, here’s a few of my favorites.

On my way back from a charity event, I passed through Little Italy (the Italian part of New York) where a street festival was going on. It’s pretty common during the summer to have an entire street closed down for a festival and in this case, they did so for Little Italy. There wasn’t anything special going on since it was night but there were rows of booths selling merchandise and food.

The first booth I passed by was a baked goods booth selling cannoli. Cannoli are a fried Sicilian pastry dessert in a shape of a tube that is usually filled with ricotta cheese with combination of flavoring. I had bought two of them (both $5 a piece!) one was an original flavor meaning basic ricotta cheese and the other had a chocolate covered shell with chocolate filling. I wasn’t a fan of the original but the chocolate was to die for! Whether it was my hormones talking, it was probably the best cannoli I’ve ever eaten.

Another adventure by Mingy and I was to Dylan’s Candy Store. We were on our way to a café called Serendipity (yes the one featured in the movie), when we saw an array of color and candy. Even just the outside of the store was eye catching so we went inside to put our curiosity to a rest.

Inside was of course, candy; walls, shelves and pillars of candy which went on for not just one, not just two but three floors! I felt like a little kid inside a dream. There were all sorts of candies from your typical convenience store to old school candy that made me feel all sorts of nostalgia. It was then that I felt really old in the sea of kids with their parents.

In addition to candy, there was also merchandise like clothes, bags and pillows. I really wanted to splurge on this cute bag I saw but it was way over my budget and anything I would spend on a cheap bag ($50). Heartbroken, we decided to make our way outside to see the clothing displayed in the front.

Turns out it was from Project Runway Season 4. We were really surprised and happy to see it as it was Fashion Week. Looking at all of them, we both voted for the Reeeses Pieces wrapper dress made by Season 4 winner, Christian.
