Today’s edition of Origins of Cute features the Japanese mascot for NHK Domo-kun! Domo-kun was created when a TV announcer for NHK said, “domo, konnichiwa”, which means “well, hello there”, but can also mean “hello, domo”. Thus, Domo-kun was born. It was hatched from an egg with a large saw-toothed mouth that is always open. Domo-kun’s favorite food is Japanese-style meat and potato stew, and he immensely hates apples thanks to some unknown reason in his DNA. When nervous or upset, he will pass gas. More »
