I find wearing a dress with a pair of stockings is an easier alternative than wearing sweats to keep my legs warm during those lazy winter days (I only own one pair of jeans). Instead of just putting on a pair of boring opaque stockings, Les Queuses de Sardines offers an array of graphic tights that can liven up any drab winter wardrobe. Their Autumn/Winter 2009-10 collection is fun, ranging in designs from rain clouds to an eye with a bone inside of it. I love them all! More »

The spring 2010 haute couture Paris fashion week is in full swing and that means one thing and one thing alone — more haute couture works of art for us to die over. Die, as in the Rachel Zoe kind of death. For those not familiar with haute couture and how it’s different from ready-to-wear fashion, just know that haute couture fashion is more elaborate in process and materials and super custom-fitted. Meaning, you can’t just waltz into a fashion house and grab an haute couture piece off the rack. Your dress has to be fitted and it has to fit you perfectly. I mean, with the kind of money you’d be forking over — why not? Haute couture is only worn by a small, micro-sized group of people in this world. Fortunately, that doesn’t stop me from showing you my faves of this season! More »

One thing my boudoir lacks is lingerie. Sadly, lingerie really has no place in my life right now. Anyone care to change that? (Insert cricket noises here.) ….or not. If it had a place in my life, I’d be all about black, vintage lingerie. To me nothing is more bold, yet feminine at the same time as black lingerie. Unfortunately, it’s such a shame that the lingerie I tend to like is a little on the expensive side. La Perla, Stella McCartney, (pictured) must you spite me and my wallet? More »

Fashion always finds inspiration in the most unusual places. While on the Etsy homepage the other day, I saw that day’s Handpicked Items were inspired by Twitter. Yes, Twitter! Its bluebird mascot has become somewhat of a cultural icon within the past few years since, as the saying goes, everyone and their mama have tweeted. Twitter not only found a way into people’s everyday lives, but into some wardrobes as well. More »

Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour and Coco Chanel comprise a holy trinity of fashion masterminds. For a lot of fashionistas, this trinity is revered as sacred and untouchable. Movies, books and maybe songs are all dedicated to the vision and work this trinity has contributed to the world of fashion. Now, there’s just one more thing to add to that list paying homage to such a holy fashion trinity: Fashion Mice. More »

Alber Elbaz, head designer of French fashion house Lanvin, has recently designed postage stamps for use in France next year. Lanvin stamps are easily the only Lanvin item I can afford with my budget! Before you go postal over high-fashion stamps, take note that they’ll only be available in France. I’m hoping for French fashionistas, this will be one way to temporarily ditch email and give life to a dying art form — the art of writing letters. More »

I think the people at Harper’s Bazaar were listening to me the other day griping over how expensive everything is while walking around Southern California’s biggest high-end mall. For fun and window shopping, mind you. In their response to my cries, they’ve published an editorial featuring Jessica Stam photographed by Miguel Reveriego called, “Cheap Thrills.” Everything in this editorial is less than $100! More »

Sretsis’ Spring 2010 collection’s daisy shades are making me wish we could just bypass this entire winter season to get to Spring. I know I’ve already mentioned Sretsis before, but these shades are ironically making my heart stop. In general, I’m pretty tired of the wayfarer sunglasses trend but it seems like the slightest whimsical touch is enough to change my anti-wayfarer sunglasses heart. In this case, it’s the daisy detailing on the outer corners of the sunglasses! Not to mention they’re one of the bigger wayfarer shades in the market. More »

To the person who sold me two Givenchy bracelets for $20 on accident… I, like, love you. With every ounce of my being! Since the bracelets were $20 each to begin with, I’m hoping it was an honest mistake because honestly, I didn’t know until I looked at my receipt. (I’m that kind of shopper.) Actually, I was already kind of excited that I could afford Givenchy at $40. More »

In terms of current fashion inspiration, I’ve recently been smitten with Louis de Gama’s Fall/Winter 2009 collection. This particular collection on the surface may appear to be a quintessential GirlyBubble favorite given the heavy use of frills, ruffles and lace. However, there’s a quality about it that suggests a certain hardness. If you pay close attention to the details in this collection, you’ll notice that under the layers of each piece, exists something that’s more structured and don’t-mess-with-me looking. More »

Don’t be alarmed when I say this, but for Fashion Friday, we’re putting pink on hold. Given that winter is just around the corner, I’d like to turn your attention to winter grays. Popular to contrary belief, wearing gray in the winter doesn’t have to be depressing. Juliette Hogan’s Winter 2009 collection is testament to the idea that winter gray adds a soft, romantic touch to a wardrobe. Sure the general consensus in the fashion world is to defeat wardrobe depression with brighter colors, but fashion is all about taking risks. Brighten up your wardrobe with winter gray! More »

Hey you. Yeah, you. I see you, putting away that box labelled “RIP Summer Clothes” Please put that box down, and listen up. I’ve got money-saving tips on how to convert a Summer sundress into a staple of your Fall wardrobe: More »

It’s the golden rule of every fashionista that you should always mix tasteful vintage with modern pieces to achieve instant chic. I, for one, tend to question the notion of ‘instant chic.’ It’s not everyday I have an instant to put together an outfit that mixes vintage and modern, and I’m not one to coordinate my closet like Cher from Clueless. Vintage or thrift shopping for me is haphazard; See it, love it, buy it. Don’t even think about what modern pieces I have in my wardrobe that’ll complement my purchases. Orla Kiely’s Fall/Winter 2009 line however, combats my problem. More »

Apparently, I didn’t receive the memo on this Fall season taking a turn for dark colors and deeper textures. Not that a memo is necessary, I’m well aware that fashion gets darker every Fall. Frankly, I just like what I like, and for now I am digging messy bows, out-of-place lace, random florals and over-sized accessories. Think garden tea party meets punk. Or to be more specific, think Peter Som Spring/Summer 2010, Luella and Jimmy Backius’ fashion editorial photography. More »

If you’re reading this, chances are, you love shoes. Maybe, almost more than life itself. Sometimes, shoes just don’t reciprocate the same passionate feelings you have. And if they’re of the high-heel variety, they reciprocate their feelings for you in ways you don’t deserve: Blisters, bunions, corns, calluses, hammertoe…beauty is pain, right? Not all the time. Here’s a simple guide to help avoiding high-heel pain: More »

Alexa Chung, proves a great point about the timeless quilted Chanel handbag. If Chanel were a language, it’d only have one letter in their alphabet: C. I don’t claim to be fluent enough (or rich enough) in Chanel-ese but this is all I can read from the quilted Chanel handbag: Girly, classic and chic. And expensive — definitely not something to be licking. More »

Lady Gaga and I have tons in common. Nevermind the fact that I’m not a chart-topping pop princess or musically talented. We both love fashion and we both love Hello Kitty. We also love it when both collide. Only, she has the advantage of having a designer create a dress made entirely out of plush Hello Kitty dolls for a recent kawaii-inspired photo shoot for Sanrio. And of course, my complete attention and adoration for Lady Gaga wearing nothing but Hello Kitty. More »

While androgyny in womenswear seems to be the current trend in fashion, Marc Jacob’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection has proved otherwise with the incorporation of satin and ruffles. The collection isn’t even two weeks old and it’s been seen on Lady Gaga by way of an amazing ruffled satin and lace champagne number that screamed femininity at a press conference this week. Do we need to be pop royalty to have access to this season’s high-fashion femininity? No. More »
