Born and raised in Chicago, Lawrence Yang first started out as a computer science major, who switched to biology, and then finally finished with industrial design where he found his passion in interaction design art.

Influenced by graffiti and traditional Chinese painting, he works with ink, marker, and watercolor to communicate atmosphere and emotion, trying to create order out of chaos (& vice versa). More »

Graffiti artist and NDEUR designer Mathieu Missiaen says he paints on all canvases including shoes. He’s started selling his shoe line in 2007 which in return has had a 3,100% positive rating. Not too shabby eh?

All his shoes flaunt his graffiti art work and are sold on Etsy.com for $200 a pop. It pays to be unique but at least your feet will be looking glam. To say the least the shoes aren’t something you would see on the streets of New York. His style is definitely different from the regular graffiti artists as it has an 80’s twist which is hot right now.

While I love the designs on the shoe, I don’t love the shoe. The shoe style is very old school and reminds of something my grandma would wear. While there are a few good ones, I wouldn’t splurge on them over a Prada shoe. A layer of fresh paint can do wonders but they can’t hide everything; however, I have to give it up to him for trying to redefine fashion.

My little list of artists I admire won’t have your standard Michaelangelos or Botticellis because while I do love what they have done, I also like “unknown” and lesser known artists who stray away from the more classical mediums and subjects. Ya dig? And so, here’s a few of my favorite artists in no particular order. =)
