So last night I got to test run my stripper shoes and I also decided I’d switch up my look from wild playful curls to a sleek straight style. What’s even better is I got to test run both at Se7en’s party at Circle with Ningin Fam’s Mia, David, and my home girl Christina, who DJ’s for Soompi Radio Club. I gotta say I’ve got sorta a mixed feeling about my hair and I’m still in love with my shoes. Check it: More »

Your feet go through a lot. You use and abuse your feet everyday, from pounding the pavement to cramming your tootsies into poorly made knock offs 1/2 size too small. So this Spring it’s time to treat your feet with a pair or two from the amazing luxury shoe line Omelle (pronounced ahm’elle). Okay, so at $600-$1000 a pair, I won’t be walking the catwalk in Omelle any time soon, but I so wish I could! Seriously, I’m in love. Check out the line at www.omelle.com. More »

Here’s where it starts to get tricky. Finding shoes that are cute and durable for under 10 bucks is tough..especially since you want quality, because well, they’re gonna get some wear, and they need to last. For that reason, I think we’re gonna cheat on this one: while we’re still on our 10 for 10 scavenger hunt, how about for footwear, we try and stay under 20 bucks? That way, we can still find cute shoes, but still have some money in our wallets. Face it, there’ll come the day when dropping $200 + on shoes won’t even phase us, but for now, we shall improvise. Yeah pretty much. I’ve been hunting these shoes down like a maniac possessed since I saw them some two years ago in LUIRE magazine. I mean, how cute are they? I’d never seen anything so awesome that I knew I had to have them… the only problem was LUIRE is a Japanese fashion magazine. How was I supposed to get them!? At first I thought they’d just go down in my book of imports that I’ll never own, but then I found that they were actually American made. I can not tell you how stoked I was with this bit of news, and so my journey towards owning them began. More »

I’m totally preoccupied with career stuff right now so my posts are probably going to be engineered towards that kind of stuff for a while. I had to learn some tricky things in the process of job hunting that no one but other college-age girls are conscious of, and so here’s to sharing the wealth.

Career Advice of the Day: Business attire is not club attire. Even if you don’t want to work in a corporate setting or don’t plan on it, at some point in time you will probably be in a situation where you need to look it (for interviews or a meeting or anything). This is a brief set of guidelines and hints that work in most industries, but definitely do some research since some industries (i.e. banking) are much stricter than others (i.e. non-profits).

Takeaway lesson should be there are ways to look hot (I mean check out the VS model on the left) without looking like a slut ;)

Suit: Wear a two-pieced matching suit (solid, darker colors such as black, brown, or navy are better if the situation is more conservative).  The bottom can be pants or a skirt.

Pants: If you choose pants, they shouldn’t be so low on your hips that you have a muffin top or risk butt-crack exposure, and they shouldn’t be so tight around your ass that it screams slut. They also shouldn’t be so long that you trip over them in your heels. No skinny legs or big flowing trousers. More »

I actually thought of another budget shopping tip that I didn’t get to include with my tips series - budget shopping fashion sites. I’m not big on online shopping since I like to try things on, but I do peruse eBay and the sale/clearance section of any retail brand that offers online shopping. Here are some great alternatives/aggregators to check out as well:

1) Salestash.com - one of our users actually alerted me about this site when I was blogging about budget shopping tips. Salestash is a sales search engine that allows you to search sales on all your favorite brands from hundreds of popular stores. For example, this would be a search for items within $5-20 range (so cheap!).

2) Stylehop.com - I heard about this site via a girl who is also a student at Yale (we’re not all unfashionable bookworms!). It has both a shopping and gaming component centered around the idea that girls can rate fashion styles for themselves rather than just buying into what the “experts” say. Then it works like the Facebook app Bevy in the sense that you can click on styles you like and there’s a button to buy it. More »

To follow suit with Tiffany and Lan, here’s a quick revisit of a sampling of this past month’s posts:

Fashion Project Runway Live Blogging: Minute by minute breakdown of the finale episode and all my crazy thoughts for anyone who missed it.

Heel Compendium: Less-than-official guide to all heel-related shoe terminology.

Beauty Bobbi Brown Makeup: Review of eye shadow and lipstick and Bobbi Brown’s au natural philosophy.

Cosmetic Expiration: When is it time to throw out old cosmetics? Answers here!

Gossip Carrie Bradshaw Love Column: I actually think the boy in question doesn’t read this anymore so I can start bitching about relationship stuff here without having to worry about him getting an upper hand on my deep dark private thoughts and confusions… whew…

Design My Room Deco: A peek at some of the easy dorm room design compilations I threw together to make my space girlier and more liveable.

Interview with Modondi: Questions and answers with the designer of the adorable emoticon T-shirt and pin company.

RandomNicknames and Petnames: CUTE PUPPY PICTURE! And some embarassing truths about my animal-derived nicknames.

Someone asked if I own the heels pictured in my Heel Compendium post. Unfortunately I don’t (some of those are really hot though so I wish), but I thought I’d showcase a few that I DO own so that I can try to use that guide to break down what’s going on style-wise with these pairs of shoes. It’s like taking off the fashionista training wheels lol.

Anyway so these are my four favorite pairs of heels, each representing a different heel type. I literally picked them out of my closet, stuck them on my window ledge, and took pictures of them in the morning light (hence all the romantic soft blue light). They’re all on the relatively newer/less-used side of my shoe collection. More »

Despite all the achey feet and thin wallets they cause me, I am madly in love with heels.

I’m so confused by all the different kinds of heel types though that I finally decided to do some research (i.e. spend an hour on Wikipedia and Google images) to figure out the terminologies once and for all. For some reason there doesn’t exist a satisfactory comprehensive explanation of heel types, so I set out to make one myself. Here it is - Ming’s grand compendium of heels.

These are pretty much all the terms I have ever heard when it comes to shopping for heels and a corresponding picture/description. Hopefully if nothing else we can all be a bit better educated about what kinds of heels we’re wearing. Definitely comment with corrections or additions since I am far from being an expert.

(Note: I organized the list into three categories since it seems to me there are some general shoe types within which you can have pretty much any combination of toe and heel.) More »

I love stilettos. I love the added 3-4 inches a nice pair of high heels gives my short legs and the click-click of striding across a marble or wooden floor in them. I do not, however, love stilettos when trying to balance on the grass at my cousin’s wedding or dodging sidewalk grates. And anyone who has attempted to walk across a New England campus is well-aware of how dangerous the cobblestones can get for the fashion conscious.
