This is kind of embarrassing to admit, but a nickname my parents gave me wasn’t the most original nickname for little girls — Princess. Even more embarrassing? My parents still call me that. Ironically, my room growing up was hardly a reflection of my nickname. Feeling inspired by recently discovering my Korean typing abilities on a new laptop, I scoured the Korean Internet for princess room inspiration — trust me, it’s cuter this way. Here’s what I dug up: More »

Yesterday, I had tea at a local tea salon called Paris In A Cup. It was tres cute and very much inspired by France and reminded me that it’d be nice to one day do something about my room. One day. For now, I can only keep French boudoir images as inspiration for when I do have the resources and means to actually get around to redo-ing the design of my room. Currently, I’m really inspired by the French boudoir — there’s something so girlish and sexy about French boudoirs: More »

One thing I learned from looking at other girl’s rooms is that there really is no winner! That’s so cheesy, but really I think the best kinds of rooms are the ones that reflect the personality and needs of the inhabitant, so there is no way to determine which is the “best” (although I also suppose that goes for all kinds of design and yet the most popular reality shows are all about picking the “best”).
With that in mind, I decided against picking rooms that have amazing pillow arrangements or incredible artsy wall decorations in favor of someone who made the most out of a really interesting interior design problem - the rooms in her dorm don’t have right angles! It’s a modern building that poses tricky furniture layout situations for its inhabitants. As if that’s not bad enough, she’s not allowed to paint or leave any kind of markings on the bare white walls and sullen dark wood/stone. For anyone who goes to Yale, you know which dorm I’m talking about (not the one with the Lipstick if you’re wondering if it’s Stiles or Morse). More »
I moved back to school today and spent the whole day sweating over getting a ridiculous amount of junk packed, loaded, unloaded, and put away. It’s a process I never liked because it makes me lament buying so much cute clothing I want to take with me, but there is something to say for the soothing effect of homemaking (nesting instincts kicking in much?)
I’ve seen many many dorm rooms in the last few years and anticipate I will continue seeing more. I’ve seen everything from the most neatly dolled-up and pinked-out sorority rooms (as pictured above) to the most ridiculously trashy and weedy-smelling dens. How you keep your space says a lot about you and it makes me curious what all of YOUR rooms are like.
So this is the deal: Send pics of your room (dorm room or not) to ming@girlybubble.com and I’ll post my favorite(s) in a week. Obvs I will respect your privacy and will not use pics submitted for any other purpose than this mini-contest and I will keep your name off at your request. Winner gets the opportunity to guest post about her interior design skillage and a free pass to the VIP area of the Fashion Shoot Party! (see my last post for details). And when my room finally stops looking like a clothes-bomb went off in it I’ll post pics of mine as well ;D
