Lady Gaga’s Hello Kitty dress, say hello to Miki Fujimoto’s Hello Kitty dress. As much as I love you with every ounce of my being Lady Gaga, I’m kind of sad to say that I think you’ve met your match. When it comes to dresses made out of plush Hello Kitty dolls, that is. Sure, Miki Fujimoto is a Japanese popstar, but in terms of fame, record sales and overall awesome-ness…she’s got nothing on you. Not to be confused with Jpop singer Hiromi Sato, artist Hiromi Sato makes some of the cutest, most girly, illustrated artwork I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, due to my lack of Japanese knowledge, there isn’t much I could find about her background. What you can discern from her illustrations is that she creates art that appeals to simple childhood fantasy. For me, it seems like everything that was great about my childhood is represented in a lot of her illustrations. More »
AKB48 is this JPOP band that has 48 female members! It’s more accurate to say that it’s three groups in one with each suppose to have 16 members. 16 x 3 = 48. Each group is designated Team A, Team K, and Team B. Hence the name AKB48. That isn’t the interesting part. This idol group also does theater shows once a week. I kid you not! And of course their poster is sooooo kawaii! Youtube videos after the jump. More »
Asian Pop Princess BoA Kwon has made her way to the big apple this year with her English single “Eat You Up”. Known as the best of Asia, she’s been training for three years to take her reputation aboard and now we can finally see the fruits of her labor.
Tonight, she will be performing in Times Square for a live audience for a select few. Even if you can’t make it, sister site Ningin will be hosting an exclusive interview with the Apop diva on December 5.
BoA is one of my favorite Apop artists. Most people who aren’t into Asia media don’t know her (sadly) but hopefully they’ll get to now that she’s in the U.S. She’s been in music the majority of her life and widely popular for her talent in singing and dancing. I guess you could say she’s the Madonna of Korea – even though she’s old(er) now, she’s still just as popular.
I always like dressing up (duh I’m a girl) so when I saw this photo of my favorite Jpop artist, Ayumi Hamasaki, I was in complete awe of her beauty. The whole “big” dress, sleeves, hat thing is adorable and I would love to flaunt it. But because of my size, chances are I would be buried in the fabric but incredibly warm.
I’m not going to get the chance to live out this fantasy but hopefully next time a costume opportunity approaches, I’ll be able to.
