The history of Hello Kitty is both boring and fascinating at the same time. To start with, Hello Kitty has no real animated character design history. Unlike Mickey Mouse or Snoopy, she was not born out of a cartoon show or a video game. Put simply, Hello Kitty started out in the ’70s as an image put on stuff. Without any real advertising, the success of Hello Kitty skyrocketed Sanrio into a billion dollar business with half of the revenue from Hello Kitty. If I could live in a storefront display of any store, kind of like Lindsay Lohan’s Confessions of a Broken heart music video but with less angst and domestic violence, I’d live in Camomilla. As Italy’s sole destination for Hello Kitty, Camomilla’s Milan location has the cutest store displays for the 2009 Autumn/Winter season. But is it really live-able? If you thought she was dead, she might as well have been. Let’s face it, her entire career is a joke and out the door. But Fornarina didn’t get the memo.

Fashion line Fornarina made Lohan the face of their company recently. While its good to hear she still has a job, they didn’t exactly flatter her either. Lohan appeared in one of their commercials spitting out random vocabulary while being surrounded by bad 80’s music and cheesy graphics. The photoshoot went a little better but there’s only one photo in the gallery of the world’s slowest website that is Fornarina. More »
