Early last month, Blythe Theater released Part 1 of their Blythe manga series, which is part of this year’s Blythe 9th Anniversary Charity Exhibition called Manga Girls Inspiration. They introduced us to Marabelle Melody, who seems like a normal girl, but really, she is a superhero. More »

It was not so much the free candy that was up for grabs on the table, but more of the visuals at artist Fiona Meng’s booth that caught my eye. Since I am a fan of feminine art, I was naturally drawn to the soft, colorful surrealism of her images. Currently based in San Francisco, Fiona (who is originally from Canada) grew up being heavily influenced by Japanese manga. More »

We’ve all envisioned Lady Gaga as an anime character thanks to the Markus Klinko and Indrani photoshoot, but how would she fare as a chibi anime character? The word “chibi” in Japanese typically means a cute “small child” or “short person.” Brazilian artist Joapa transformed our anime eyes-lovin’ Lady Gaga into chibi Anime drawings. Looking at these drawings makes me wish there was an actual anime series featuring Lady Gaga. More »

“Did you want me to autopsy your watch?” –Ducky (NCIS)

Inspired by previous Tara’s Fab Fave, I decided to list out my favorite things to do to kill time. I rarely ever have time to waste but when I do, it’s the greatest thing ever. It makes me wish that I was younger for a lot longer. More »

When it comes to wasting time and procrastination, I think I’m a master at it. Well, maybe not, but I do have my ways of passing time in the most random ways ever. Here are some of my favourite ways to pass time and to avoid doing stuff I should be doing. These activities are so time consuming in ways that they even cut into my queued up list of fun stuff to do. (Ie: reading a book that’s been around for years.) More »

And that’s cool with me! Who am I talking about? Why, walnutwhale, Polyvore stylist extraordinaire! I know you’re probably grumbling “not another Polyvore post” but hear me out! Besides, I won’t stop talking about Polyvore until EVERYONE is completely obsessed with it like myself! Anywho, back to walnutwhale. She, like many of my contacts on Polyvore; has a very sassy and unique style. What’s totally awesome about walnutwhale is her imagination. I love her “series” of sets that were inspired by video game and manga characters! I mean, who would have thought that Sheik from Zelda, or Kirakishou of Rozen Maiden could be fashion inspirations…WITHOUT needing a cosplay convention as an excuse!!!

Ever since Cosplay Day at Kinokuniya in August, there was one particular cosplayer that caught my eye; however, I didn’t have the opportunity to get to know her which nearly broke my heart. Her cosplay at the time was Rhyme from the Square Enix game The World Ends With You. I absolutely loved it and was able to get a quick photo.

It was then by chance that I saw her again at New York Anime Festival last weekend cosplaying in a completely different outfit. To say the least she looked stunning in her handmade cosplay and this time I made sure to get to know her.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. (Name, age, height, hobbies, etc. Anything you want to include). My name is Jennifer (or Kaori, whichever works for you) and 22 years old. I like to read manga, novels, watch T.V., play video games, sewing and hanging out with friends. I don’t really watch anime because I don’t have the time, and sometimes, it’s just not as good as the manga. I come off as quiet and shy when people first meet me cause I tend to get very nervous. I never know what to say, so I’m always quiet. Some people take it the wrong way, and think otherwise. Please be patient with me, and I will open up. It just nerves get the better of me. More »

Last weekend was the New York Anime Festival where anime lovers and costume players alike gathered. As you may know, Ningin (our sister site) hosted a cosplay contest where over hundreds of cosplayers participated. I had the opportunity to meet some of those cosplayers and interview them, one of which is Carrie Wink who caught my eye the first day with her amazing, handmade cosplay costume. Below she goes into detail about not only herself but her cosplay career and her future aspirations.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Name: Carrie Wink Age: 26 Height: 5′ 7 1/2″ Hobbies: Sewing, Modeling, Drawing, Baking, Traveling, Anime, Manga, Video Games, and Exercising. Aspirations: One of my goals is to become a costume designer for accredited plays or other theatrical performances. Another goal of mine is to become a representative for an Anime Company with responsibilities that can include modeling, spokesperson or advertising campaigns. More »

This weekend I’m going to spending all my time at New York Anime Festival which started today. Even though it’s supposed to be calm, it was really busy for us because we were doing a Cosplay Photoshoot Contest which attracted a lot of cute cosplayers. I had no idea what to expect and I’m a little jealous/sad that I didn’t get to cosplay myself.

We took over 200 photos today which doesn’t even amount to how many we’ll be taking tomorrow. For now however, here’s a few from today that I thought stood out in my mind.

Note that I only picked girls this time! No offense to the boys but the girl in me has to represent. This in no way has any influence over the winners in the contest. Voting process will begin Monday. Good luck to everyone.

I was also told that most of the cosplayers were bringing their A-game tomorrow. More »
