I had the most unpleasant shopping experience the other day when I was at So Good Jewelry in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district with my boyfriend. I checked them out on Yelp and apparently, they’re very notorious for their absolute lack of customer service. So this is what I have to say to them: More »

When it comes to money, I’m almost Suze Orman good at using it. Note that you just read ‘using’ and not losing. Of course, it never used to be this way. I was once a dumb teenage mall employee making unnecessary purchases left and right. Who knew then that it wasn’t necessary to be buying 10 shades of the same thing? I certainly didn’t. Fortunately, over time, my spending habits have become more refined and I am less likely to make frivolous purchases. More »

To the person who sold me two Givenchy bracelets for $20 on accident… I, like, love you. With every ounce of my being! Since the bracelets were $20 each to begin with, I’m hoping it was an honest mistake because honestly, I didn’t know until I looked at my receipt. (I’m that kind of shopper.) Actually, I was already kind of excited that I could afford Givenchy at $40. More »

So I’ll be honest. I have a wishlist that’s about 90 miles long. It’s got everything from electronics to clothes on it, and with sites like Polyvore it gets longer everyday. Unfortunately for me, my birthday is at the end of the year, so waiting for gifts from family seems like forever to me. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t get things for myself whenever right? Well, here are a few of the things on my wishlist that I’m looking at as a personal gift to myself. =)
Now that I can afford to buy stuff on my own meagre pay cheques, I constantly receive that box you see on the left. However, I consider the box’s company to be one dangerous site. Which is ironic because I generally despise shopping, but there are three things I like to shop for. They are: books/mangas, DVDs (basically films/animes), and video games and its merchandises. Unfortunately for my bank account, credit card, and my poor father who brings home the packages for me, Amazon is abundant with those items. More »

Yesterday I totally made off with a $45 skin-colored biofit bra for $9.99 (a “scientifically designed” padded push-up bra released last March). I got several other Victoria’s Secret and Victoria’s Secret Pink bras too, all of which were original priced between $25-$45 but marked down to $9.99.
How? There’s a reason I sing praises of outlet shopping. The Tanger Outlets I visit every vacation just opened a Victoria’s Secret store. The thing about outlet stores for these big name brands is that the items they carry are almost all factory direct or leftover unsold items from the main stores, so admittedly you sometimes have less selection or quality, but the difference is negligible whereas the markdowns rarely can be found elsewhere. Especially at times like this when everyone is trying to clear out their holiday inventory.
I was at the Victoria’s Secret store next to Macy’s and Ktown in New York City a few days ago before going to the Mixr Media blogger party and the Semi-Annual Sale bras were all marked down from $45 to $25 max. Good thing I didn’t feel like dealing with the lines and crowds and left before getting a biofit, because as fortune would have it I found the same bras for $10 at the Victoria’s Secret outlet store on Long Island. A bit of patience goes a long way for the bargain hunter!

So naturally I was on Polyvore creating outfits I dream of, and I came across these adorable Gummi Bear candy inspired earrings! Talk about cute enough to eat! All I could think of as I made my set was how much I wanted a pair….and then my mind switched to how much I wanted a bag of gummi bears at that moment. PERFECT combination! lol Luckily for me, Polyvore has a “buy it” option, as well as the link to the store, so off I went to check out the mechanics of this sweet little accessorie.

Santa appropriately didn’t bring me anything this year since I’ve been naughty and not keeping up with my fab faves on regular schedule =/ But that’s why New Year’s is right around the bend - so we can reform and start anew!
Unfortunately life has been terrifically boring as of late given that the flurry of finals devolved rapidly into a flurry of sleeping in late and pigging out on Christmas cookies. I’m sure many of you school gals can sympathize with my favorite activities of Winter Break:
1) Skiing: Actually this year I chose not to go skiing because I’ve got lots of random things to attend to and so there isn’t really time, but I usually really look forward to getting all my ski gear out and driving up to Vermont, New Hampshire, or upstate New York with my dad. There is nothing like a really crazy new black diamond trail to get the blood pumping and the oxygen filling the lungs. Or create great excuses for fun snow gear (I have a matching hello kitty scarf and hat set, no joke xD). More »
For my last 2008 “Fab Faves” entry, I’m going to end with a list of my reflections this year. Despite my health going kaput this year, I’m amazed by how much had happened in a single year! I hope you all had a great year! I’m looking forward to 2009 and hope it will be better than 2008!
Girl Gamer: Expanded my game selections for the DS. In fact, the DS is the only system I played on all year long! I even played games I never would have thought to play! (ie: Princess Debut)
Proud Nerd: Discovered that I graduated cum laude with a 3.85 gpa from my uni, to which my mother heard me say it as “cula” and “goon goh goo ma” (sweet potato in Korean). More »
Remember how a few weeks ago I ordered a bunch of stuff online for Black Friday? Everything I ordered has come, things have been returned, etc. and here are two things I learned from the whole thing:
1) I returned a couple of items from New York & Company and American Eagle. The New York & Company items included a pair of pants I wanted to exchange for a larger size, but it turns out that they don’t do exchanges - they just credit you for the item and you go and rebuy it using a code for free shipping (4341 in case any of you want to go and use it now! They’re having a huge sale…)
2) Online shopping is really easy and opens up a lot of options that aren’t available in-store. But I’m pretty picky so half the things that come in the mail end up not being as good or fitting as I imagine, so I end up losing money by sending them back. So it’s a lot of fun (I LOVE getting packages) and I’ll be doing more in the future, but for the sake of my credit card line and the hassle, I’ll stick with my semi-annual outlet spree. Especially once New Year’s ends and the clearances start!

I think it’s pretty clear by now that I adore shopping when it involves great deals, so you’d think that I’d be one of the crazies in the crowd on Black Friday. In reality though, I hate trying to fight the crowds (like Tiffany bravely did) and I usually plan my shopping trips to avoid them.
This year I finally gave up my longstanding conviction that online shopping is evil and Black Friday doubly so. I think I’ve dumped something like $75 at New York & Company, $40 at Ann Taylor, and $40 at American Eagle in the last 48 hours to take advantage of Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales and free shipping. All without leaving my desk. If I didn’t freak out at my disappearing bank balance and swear off looking at all other sites, I probably would have spent more at Victoria’s Secret and Express. In my defense a lot of the spending was on suit separates for interview season, so it’s more like an investment than an indulgence, but it’s still shocking how easily and quickly money can just disappear like that o_O More »

Am I the only one who feels like I wasted the day and money on things I can’t account for!? I’ve been out since the butt-crack of dawn, and finally I get home to amire my spoils, yet….I have none. Granted I don’t really have to shop for that many people, but still, you’d think that with all of the shopping deals and steals out there I’d have least came home with something worthwhile right? WRONG.

In my last post I mourned the death of my purple Nokia 5300. But now I’m eagerly awaiting my white Google G1 Phone! It took a while to decide on but now that I have I’m really happy =)
I have to admit it’s costing me a fortune - $215 with a two-year extension of my T-mobile contract ($179 plus upgrade fee and taxes), and it’s an extra $25 a month to operate the thing - but we’re talking about a touch screen, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, internet on the go, all my favorite google gadgets, GPS, music player, video, camera, and of course a deliciously cute and sleek design.
There are a bunch of other features but one I’m particularly interested in trying out is this application that allows you to scan barcodes and do price comparison shopping on your phone so that you don’t have to buy stuff full-price in the store. Budget Shopping Tip #7? It’s up for review as soon as I get my hands on it ;) More »
